John 15:7

But if you live in life-union with me and if my words live powerfully within you—then you can ask whatever you desire and it will be done. - John 15:7 (The Passion Translation)

Jesus was telling His Disciples that if they (you) are one with God, if they (you) listen to him, and live in accordance to that, you will have desires downloaded to your heart directly from the Holy Spirit. Entertain this: why doesn’t God just have those desires fulfilled? Why does he want you to want them as well?

God can do anything, but he wants to share his heart with you. He wants unity and intimacy with you, and so naturally, this also means that he shares his heart with you. It brought him so much joy not only to create you for all that you are but then to go one step further and be in relationship with you.

But not only does he want you to have those desires, but he also wants you to ask for them as well. This brings you closer to Him because it requires you to be active, bold, and righteously assertive in your faith. By challenging your spiritual comfort zone, he’s drawing you out. He wants to see you in the fullness of how he created you, and he empowers you with holy authority to do his bidding.

And then when you do both of those things, you will get what you asked for. Which, let’s be honest, seeing the fruits of our faith is pretty amazing. It’s confirmation that what we asked for was real, that we heard God correctly and wholly, and that he listens. Dad listens.

What’s so essential about this process is that each step requires the one prior in order to see its effectiveness, and then the greatness of each step builds upon the previous one until you see revelation of God coming full circle in your life. He is a faithful Dad, and he’ll keep his word.
